Do cleaners bring their own supplies?
Yes — products, cloths, vacuums and equipment all arrive with the team. The more useful question is when you should override that and supply your own.
What arrives with the team
Everything needed to complete the visit. You should not have to buy, store or set out anything.
That means cleaning and disinfecting products for kitchens, bathrooms, glass and general surfaces; microfiber cloths, with separate cloths kept for kitchen and bathroom areas; a vacuum; mops and buckets; and the various brushes and tools the scope calls for.
It also means you are not responsible for whether anything runs out, which is a small thing that turns out to matter — a household supplying its own products inevitably has the visit where the bathroom cleaner is empty.
One exception worth knowing: on a recurring commercial contract, consumables like paper towels, soap and liners can be supplied by either side. That is a line in the scope document and it is decided at the walkthrough.
When to supply your own
There are four genuinely good reasons to override the default, and one that is not.
- A surface that needs something specific. Natural stone, certain engineered floors, waxed or oiled wood, some high-gloss cabinet finishes. Using the wrong product on these repeatedly causes damage that cleaning cannot undo.
- A sensitivity in the household. Someone reacts to fragrances or to a particular class of product. Straightforward — leave out what you want used.
- A strong preference. You have researched what you want in your home and would rather it was that. Entirely reasonable, no explanation needed.
- A manufacturer requirement. Some floor and countertop warranties specify what may be used on them. If yours does, tell us and we will follow it.
The reason that is not good: assuming a domestic product is gentler than a commercial one. It often is not. Household descalers and bathroom cleaners can be more aggressive on stone than what a trained team would use, and "natural" says nothing about pH.
The surfaces that genuinely matter
These are the ones where the wrong product causes permanent, visible damage rather than a poor result. If you have any of them, say so at booking.
- Marble, travertine and some granites — acidic products etch them, and etching is permanent.
- Oiled or waxed hardwood — general floor cleaners strip the finish.
- Unsealed or older grout — strong acids and repeated bleach degrade it.
- High-gloss and matte lacquered cabinetry — abrasives and some solvents dull the finish.
- Natural stone shower walls — the same etching risk as counters, in the room where descaling is most needed.
- Antique or specialist finishes — worth flagging individually rather than assuming.
How to hand something over
Practically, the simplest thing works best.
- Leave the product out on the surface it is for, not in a cupboard.
- Add a line in your booking notes saying what it is and what it is for. That carries to every future visit.
- If it is for one specific surface only, say so — otherwise a team may reasonably assume you want it used more widely.
- If you want us to stop using something, say that too. "Nothing scented in the bedrooms" is a perfectly normal instruction.
Once it is on your account it is handled. You do not need to leave a note every fortnight.
Supplies questions
- Do you use eco-friendly products?
We use products appropriate to each surface and use them as directed, with surfaces left dry. If you want particular products used in your home — environmental, fragrance-free, or anything else — leave them out and they will be used instead. We would rather do that than make claims about product chemistry that we cannot substantiate.
- Do you bring a vacuum, or use mine?
We bring one. If you would rather we used yours — some people prefer it for a specific floor, or have a machine suited to heavy pet hair — leave it out and say so.
- Are the cloths clean?
Yes, and cloths are kept separate between kitchen and bathroom areas so nothing crosses between them. It is a basic standard and worth asking any company about.
- What about products for pets or children?
Tell us what you would rather was not used and leave alternatives out. Surfaces are left dry, and the most useful thing you can do is tell us which rooms and surfaces matter most to you.
- Can you use bleach?
Where it is appropriate and where you are happy for it to be used. If you would rather it was not used in your home at all, say so and it will not be. Never mix it with anything yourself — that is genuinely dangerous.
